The price of election

Regular gasoline costs $3.64 per gallon in this area. Hard to understand? That's because Americans insist on boycotting the metric system. But I'll explain. One gallon is equal to 3.78 liters.  Considering today's exchange rate (2.02 reais per dollar), the price is 1.94 Brazilian Reais per liter.

Not very different than Brazil's prices. But the Americans were used to much cheaper gas, and this can cost Barack Obama's reelection. When he took office in 2009 the price was $1.83 per gallon (1.12 Brazilian Reais per liter according to exchange rate then). The price pratically doubled.

Here in Washington, the campaign has already started, with all sorts of attacks from side to side. But in the rest of the country, the average American is not that interested in politics. His real concern is about the gas price.

Working class people can't afford living downtown, and usually settle in the suburbs, sometimes more than an hour drive to work. That's why gas prices affect almost everybody.

No matter if people say the prices are rising because of international oil supply vs demand, crisis or wars. Obama will have to answer for this. The opposition used this argument. The following ad argues that Obama wants the price to reach $9 per gallon.
