The Pride Parade

São Paulo wasn't the only city to have a pride parade last weekend. Washington had the Capital Pride. Like everything here, the event is much more political than anywhere else. A big part of the residents are not from here, so the capital is more receptive to the LGBT community.

Let's see the shots!

I love this picture. This group is Dykes on Bikes. They opened the parade with their Harley-Davidsons. The couples show how diverse the LGBT community is: a woman driving, more masculine, and other behind, more feminine. Look at this pose. Look at this cigarette. She is more masculine than your father and grandfather put together.

The mains points of gay friendly commerce in Washington are Dupont Circle, 17th Street NW and P Street NW. Unlike São Paulo, the buildings are not so huge, in order to favor national landmarks, like the Capitol and the Washington Monument.
Because of that, the scenario is more like a countryside parade. Without big sound systems - thank God.

95º F heat explain the picture above.

The presence of families in the parade is very interesting. The group above stands for respect for the LGBT community in public schools. Learn it, Brazil.

LGBT support for president Barack Obama increased after the public manifestation he did on same-sex marriage. He was the first American president to publicly support the cause. There were no flags for the Republican Mitt Romney for whom marriage is only between a man and a woman.

City council members and even the mayor don't miss the chance to show their faces and score some points with the huge LGBT community of Washington.

This lad was the worst cross-dresser in the parade. He just picked an old dress from his mom's closet and went to the street, without any production. Obviously heterosexual.

Courage is to paint the whole body in gold and climb up a decorated truck. This group represents Nellie's bar.

Gorgeous lady! NOT!

The lady on the white limousine is the ancient drag queen Ella Fitzgerald, hostess at Ziegfeld/Secrets. Here she is escorted by her private army of bodybuilders.

Die of envy of her hat. A stuffed peacock!

Someone is flirting with people on the sidewalk!

Half of Washington is black and a huge percentage is gay. He feels like he is trending.

When I thought this kind of thing just happens in Brazil, I see this little queen, that could have easily been born in Fortaleza's suburbs. Look at this hair color: I call it "rusted-pipe-water yellow". To complete his look, he killed a parrot, picked a pair of flip-flops and done.

And he has a friend with a similar sense of fashion.

It was the first time I saw headline costume. Washington Blade is a newspaper for the local  LGBT community.

Black Adele?

Audacious!

The Pride Festival ended Sunday, near the Capitol, with a Deborah Cox show - that singer with a lot of hits you know, but never learned who was singing. She had a song on the Queer as Folk's soundtrack.
