If you are in Virginia, here is a tip for a nice weekend. I've been at Philip Carter Winery near the footsteps of the mountains by the west of the state.
The tour includes a visit to the grapevines. They have chardonnay and cabernet grapes.
A guide explains a little of the winery's history, and how the wine is produced. This winery works since 1762, when the state was ruled by the British.
After this come the best part: drinking. The guide offers a sample of each wine produced there, tell the differences, and recommends the best match for each drink. They gave us a basket with cheese, crackers, and jelly to eat with the wine..
The winery is 62 miles from Washington, about 1h20min drive. More information: http://www.pcwinery.com/
